"This doesn't add up.." [break][break]

She walks out of a cafe in the mall, safe from the prying eyes and the bashing heat from above. She wasn't a fan of the sun, she never was a fan of the sun, and yet her pokemon were able to convince her to get out of her house and enjoy herself, even if a little bit. Hence, Faith has opted to grab herself a nice bottle of bubble tea. The young woman quietly sips on the beverage with her phone in hand, a rotom acting as her guide by using their vocal cues in their pokedex form. 'Turn left' or 'person incoming' were usually the warnings they'd give, in the scenario she'd bump into them. There was nothing personal, but she'd prefer not to bother other people and she'd prefer not to spill her bubble tea on anything. She'd also rather not start her day profusely apologizing for getting anything dirty, especially not when people would sooner raise their voice over her already soft one. [break][break]

Her eyes stayed on her phone as she walked-- But upon closer inspection, she was looking at news articles dated approximately eight years ago. It was old news - local news - that would have taken some time and digging to find, but it was saved on her photos in her phone for a reason. The woman stares at the screen through her glasses, pensively reading through the same information.. It might as well have become memory. Unfortunately, she's so invested in her reading that she doesn't notice the rotom slowly - gradually - floating over to a tea store, taking in the scents and enjoying them altogether. They weren't there when the woman whow as staring at her phone suddenly has her foot hit and step on the back sole of another shoe, causing her to slip, lose balance and fall forwards onto the person before her. [break][break]

Along with the bubble tea, which, unfortunately, found a new home all over the man's clothing.

In most cases, Kingsley prefers to avoid crowded areas like the mall. Too many people has always set him on edge, made him feel more aware of his personal space and just how often others fail to consider it. There are advantages - it's easier to get away with things in a crowded place when nobody is paying attention to anyone - but today isn't a day where he can use them.

He holds a bag in the crook of his elbow and makes his way towards the mall exit. His gaze flickers between people: there a woman with brown hair, there a child tugging on his mother's arm, there a man with slouched shoulders and wandering eyes.

Kingsley pays too much attention to everything going on and his focus is only broken by a vibration in his back pocket. He plucks his phone from his pocket and examines the screen, pace slowing. The message isn't important but he replies anyways. It takes him a moment to think of something to say when something catches the heel of his boot and sends him stumbling forward. Worst than that, he's aware of an abrupt coldness sinking into his shirt and the weight of a body knocking into him.

Kingsley's lips turn into a white line. It takes him a second - only a second - to regain himself. He straightens and turns, phone still in hand, thumb hovering above the screen, and regards the young woman. His eyebrows lift, smile easy.

Her head gently hits the man's back, but she's grateful that he was able to keep her balance. [break][break]

Thankfully, she doesn't tumble complately over. She's able to regain her balance after a little bit, feet planting themselves into the ground while she processes what she'd done. Through a large, black frame, she finds only half of her drink left in the bottle, while the rest had dripped down from the back of the man's shirt. Her face flushes red, how could she have done that? Was she blind? She was right - walking around outside was dangerous. She would do something wrong - even if she didn't, there will be someone who tried to cause trouble. She grumbles, softly, as she tries to compose herself. [break][break]

Her eyes narrow, glancing to the side as she braces for a scolding that would never come. When she realizes, instead, that he was looking down at her. Despite the dripping beverage, probably cold on the back of his shirt, he was smiling-- ... But there was something off. She feels her heart drop, her skin crawl - but why? He was smiling, asking about her rather than himself. She should have been flattered. The smile was genuine, but his eyes said otherwise. [break][break]

His eyes were empty. [break][break]

The same eyes, she's seen them once. She never forgets a face, like she never forgets a page on any book she's read. "Ah.. I-I'm alright.." She stammers. Her voice is quiet as a whisper, even through the crack she makes from the anxiety. Her stomach churns - was it from the social anxiety? [break][break]

She turns her attention back to him and his shirt, immediately beginning to hold the remainder of her drink with both hands. "I-I'm so sorry..!" Once again, like a panicked whisper. How was she going to make this better? A simple apology? No. She wanted to get out of there - hide in a hole and cry or disappear from reality from the embarrassment alone. Instead, all she could voice was "I-I'll.. Buy a new shirt for you.."[break][break]

Before she catches herself, like a deerling in headlights.

Kingsley watches the girl try to cave into herself and disappear. Her voice is small, threatening to be lost in the cacophony of footsteps and chatter in the mall. He strains to hear her.

Tucking his phone back into his pocket, Kingsley lifts his eyebrows. "It's a shirt," he says, rolling a shoulder. He hooks his thumb into his jeans. "It can be washed."

The cold clings to his back. He wants to leave, but politeness demands he stay. Kingsley's smile does not falter.

He tells her that it's alright, a smile and a voice hoping to calm her down. [break][break]

Yet why does she feel so unnerved? [break][break]

She can't shake the feeling off, and she thinks that he's upset at her. Or.. No. Upset was the wrong word. Was something alright with him? Was he okay? He seemed spaced, like she were talking to air. She doesn't know how to respond to him. She calms herself, but not being of his tone. It isn't because of his seemingly kind patience, nor the politeness. [break][break]

It was the fact that she felt like she wasn't talking to anyone at all. [break][break]

And, for a moment, the woman lowers her head slightly and nods her head. "... Uhm.." She is about to start. Will she be more a nuisance than she already should be? But she can't shake this off, until she's addressed it. "Are you alright?" her voice, again, soft. But there was a spark - a louder chime to it. Perhaps it was the slightly more serious tone she took on. "I'm.. I'm not referring to your shirt this time." She points, although she still felt bad about it. [break][break]

Kingsley resumes a neutral face, eyes hooded as he regards whether or not he can leave now. As he considers saying goodbye, the girl's question stops him. The corner of his mouth tugs up at the corner, brows knitting together in the image of confusion. His confusion only grows as she makes a show of pointing and explaining herself - although the explanation answers nothing.

He laughs, straightening up. Kingsley tilts his head.

"Is there a reason I wouldn't be alright?" he inquires. "Are you worried I'm mad or something? I'm not - really."

She shakes her head, now pointing at her own eyes. "Your eyes--" She starts. [break][break]

She catches herself, shaking her head gently before trying to give him a soft smile of her own. "... No.. I wanted to know if there were something wrong." She pauses, narrowing her eyes slightly. "... No. You're.. Smiling, a-and I know it's rude for me to say this--" But she still says it, because it was better than being quiet. "... But you seem irritated, even still.." A gut feeling, she wanted to tell him. But wouldn't that be even more offensive? [break][break]

She glances to her drink, although she fumbles slightly and tries to keep a proper hold on it. "Even if you say you aren't angry.." She grumbles. "I still insist to buy you a new shirt." Because she didn't want him to catch a cold, or feel uncomfortable with it being sticky. ".. For my own conscience, please."

"My eyes," Kingsley repeats, mimicking her gesture towards himself. His lips part to say something else, but the girl shakes her head and so Kingsley lets the words die on his tongue. He crosses his arms over his chest, head tipping to the side as she tries to explain herself.

"I think," he says, "you're projecting all those feelings onto me because you feel bad and think I should be upset."

With a sigh, he shrugs in an exaggerated motion, flaying his hands out to either side. He looks at the girl, mouth drawn into a thin smirk.

"But who am I to resist a cute girl buying me a new shirt? Alright, darling, lead the way."

Perhaps she was overreacting.[break][break]

But she can't help but to stare, almost skeptical of his words. It leaves an unpleasant taste in her mouth, but she dismisses it before giving a small smile in return. She brings her hand up to the back of her neck, gently brushing her strands of hair as she rubs her side. "Eheh.. I'm very sorry.." She gives him an apologetic glance from behind her glasses. Ease up, Faith. There wasn't any (visible) reason as to why she should be uncomfortable.[break][break]

The compliment on the other hand, had the girl's cheeks warm the slightest bit. It was rare for her to leave the confines of her room, so most times, she would end up a slight bit self-conscious about her appearance. Being complimented by someone who, she dared say, was attractive himself, was high praise. "I--.. Thank you.." And she doesn't have the heart to decline his polite mannerisms. [break][break]

At the very least, he seemed understanding of her.. frantic behaviour. The woman offers a slight smile, then tilts her head. "Is there a particular store you'd like to shop at?"

Kingsley looks for the closest store he can find and then snaps back to the girl. He pretends to think about it more, mimicking her gesture by setting a hand on the back of his own neck. With the other, he motions towards the store: Whimsy. It's an expensive one, but it's also close, and if he's not the one paying, then it doesn't matter.

Hand dropping back to his side, Kingsley smiles at her. He hooks his thumb into the pocket of his jeans.

"Is Whimsy okay? I don't think I want to walk far with all this tea soaking my shirt," he says with a laugh. "It's pretty uncomfortable."
